  12. I am not an experienced user, so please bear with my ignorance. I have had this 
  13. problem ever since I purchased my computer a year ago. If I have activated the 
  14. modem (for whatever reason) and then disconnect to resume other activities, 
  15. the modem will automatically answer the phone when some one tries to phone me. 
  16. After 2 rings the modem screeches in their ear. The only thing that has solved 
  17. this problem is restarting the computer or shutting it down completely. There 
  18. must be a better way!

  20. I have Windows 95 and have tried to change the settings. Under the Control 
  21. Panel I click on the Modem button and then from Modem Properties I click on 
  22. Properties. From here I click on Connection, then Advanced... which gets me to 
  23. the "Extra settings" text box. ARE YOU STILL WITH ME?  :-)  O.K. I have read 
  24. my modem manual and consequently tried typing in an AT command in the Extra 
  25. settings box. I typed in AT S0=0, which should tell the modem not to answer. 
  26. BUT the modem still answers after two rings.

  28. The above attempt to solve this problem may be way off. Can you give me some 
  29. advice? I have a 14,400 bps Hayes Fax/Modem.
